We offer comprehensive health services, as well as guidance and advice tailored to your dog's lifestyle, breed, and life stage to help keep your pet happy and healthy.

We recommend bringing your canine friend for a health check at least once a year. Feel free to contact us for an appointment to have your pet checked out or to ask any questions on how to better take care of your best friend.

Cats

Cats are intelligent and adorable companions . Although cats can be strongly independent characters they are still susceptible to various health issues. We can offer guidance and advice to help you better take care of your cat. Having an average lifespan ranging from 15 to 20 years, taking care of a cat is a long-term commitment. To ensure your cat is as healthy as it can be, we recommend routine health checks to help us diagnose, treat and prevent health problems before they become serious. Reach out to us for appointments and for more information. We are also happy to take any questions about nutrition, behaviour, and any other concerns you may have.

Rabbits and guinea pigs

Rabbits are playful and social animals and make great pets. They do however have specific environmental and dietary requirements which makes owning rabbits a different proposition to other animals. We recommend regular check-ups to ensure your rabbit is in good health.

Sociable and loveable, guinea pigs are slightly different from other companion animals. Their continuously growing teeth are managed by the constant grinding of food but occasionally they require dental treatment too. To ensure proper dental and general health, we recommend taking your little friend for regular health checks at our clinic where our vets can offer you professional guidance and advice on nutrition, husbandry and more.

Vaccination

We offer vaccinations for dogs, cats, and rabbits. Dogs should be vaccinated for Distemper, Parvovirus, Hepatitis, and Kennel Cough. Cats should be vaccinated for Feline Enteritis, and Cat Flu.

We tailor the vaccination program specifically for your pet's lifestyle and life stage.

Microchipping

Why microchip your companion? Because it is one of the best ways to identify your pet if they ever got lost. Injecting a microchip about the size of a grain of rice is completely safe and permanent. It is injected under the skin between the shoulders and contains a unique code to your pet, which is stored in a national computer database.

Your contact details can be changed and updated on the pet registry to ensure you can be notified when your lost pet has been found. We also recommend using a collar with an ID tag for easier identification if lost, as well as avoiding ending up in shelters. However, they can be lost from grooming or playing, so it is still best to have your pet microchipped so it has an ID permanently and can be identified any time.

If your pet is not microchipped, please make an appointment with us to have one inserted.

It is now compulsory to microchip all dogs and cats in Tasmania.

Preventative Care

Our preventative care services include but are not limited to:

Flea prevention and control

Flea problems can range from minor to serious problems at worst. They may cause pruritus (itching), irritation, as well as hair loss, and allergies. Contact us as soon as possible if you see signs of possible flea infestations as they don't just stay on our pets, they bite us too!

Intestinal worms and Heartworm

Intestinal worm infections in dogs and cats often present no symptoms, but occasionally can cause severe disease. These worms can also (rarely) infect humans, so prevention is important. Heartworm disease is a fatal disease that can cause major damage to organs in pets. It is caused by parasitic worms that are spread through mosquito bites.

Although we a fortunately free of heartworm in Tasmania, preventatives are important if you are travelling to affected areas of mainland Australia with your pet. We can give you advice on the appropriate worming treatments to protect your pet.

Tick prevention

Paralysis ticks have long been a problem on the east coast of mainland Australia, and while much less common in Tasmania we do have a variant species of the paralysis tick in some regions of our state. Although we are yet to see these ticks in our region of the North West coast, prevention of this potentially deadly parasite is recommended, particularly if you are travelling with your pet. We stock the new generations of flea and tick preventatives which are highly effective and easy to administer.

Prevention, not treatment, is the best and most affordable approach when it comes to parasites.
